About SpeakerHQ

A quiz-first decision engine for DJ and PA speaker buyers. No spec sheets, no jargon, no spammy comparison tables, no fake prices, no fabricated reviews.

Why this exists

Most DJ speaker buying guides drop you into a wall of numbers and assume you already understand the difference between SPL, watts, coverage angle, and frequency response. Most buyers do not - and most buyers should not have to. SpeakerHQ translates the buying question into plain English: who are you playing for, where, what music, how much bass, what budget. Then it gives you one answer.

The site was built because every existing “best DJ speakers” article reads the same way: a Top-10 list dictated by who paid for placement, padded with affiliate links to gear nobody on the list has actually owned. We thought that was solvable.

How the recommendations are made

A 4-question quiz maps your answers to one of seven speaker setup archetypes (compact 10″ pair, 12″ pair, 15″ pair, 12″ + sub, 15″ + sub, column array, dual-sub rig). Each archetype is scored against your answers using weights that reflect how working DJs actually buy - not what spec sheets imply.

Inside each archetype we show three product tiers: best value, best overall, and a premium upgrade. We also give you a shopping checklist of accessories you will need on gig day and an upgrade path so you know what to buy next.

How products get included

Every product in the catalog meets four criteria:

  • It is built by a brand a working DJ actually buys - QSC, RCF, Yamaha, Electro-Voice, Mackie, Alto, Bose, dB Technologies. No house brands, no white-label drop-shippers.
  • It is currently in production and available on Amazon US, so the recommendation is actionable.
  • Its published specs survive scrutiny - we cross-check max SPL, frequency response, weight, and coverage angle against the manufacturer’s data sheet, not retailer copy.
  • It earns its place in at least one of the seven archetypes. Products that fit nowhere get cut.

When two products tie in an archetype slot, the one with stronger long-term reliability and resale value wins. Reliability beats raw spec.

What we deliberately do not do

  • We do not show live prices. Prices move daily, and a stale price is worse than no price. We show tier (Budget / Mid / Premium / High-end) and link you to Amazon for the live number.
  • We do not fabricate user reviews. Every other “best of” site does - you can usually spot it by the suspiciously uniform 4.7-star ratings. Ours come from manufacturer specs, working-pro consensus, and our own gig experience.
  • We do not recommend gear we would not run ourselves. If a product is in the catalog, a working DJ could pick it up and gig with it next weekend without apology.
  • We do not pad with 30 products to look comprehensive. The catalog is short on purpose. Decision fatigue kills more sales than missing options.

How we make money

SpeakerHQ is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click through from a product page or quiz result and buy on Amazon, we earn a small commission - usually 1–4% of the sale price. The price you pay is identical to anyone else’s. We never up-charge.

Affiliate tag: gear-match-20. Every Amazon link on this site uses rel=“nofollow sponsored noopener” per Amazon’s Operating Agreement and FTC disclosure rules.

Full disclosure on the affiliate disclosure page.

We do not accept paid placement, sponsored rankings, or “featured listing” deals from any brand or retailer. If a product appears at the top of an archetype, it is because it earned it - not because it bought it.

The editorial perspective

The site is built and maintained by an editorial team with mobile-DJ and PA-engineering experience - weddings, corporate events, club nights, outdoor festivals, install work. Every archetype, every product pick, and every guide has been pressure-tested against actual gigs. We do not pretend to be neutral about gear; we have opinions, and we make them clear.

Trust and feedback

If you spot a factual error, a recommendation that no longer holds up, or a product that should be in the catalog and is not - tell us. The catalog is intentionally short and intentionally evolving.
